I am not sure that the PD box would work properly with the auto transfer switch. It would take the place of the 120V breaker box, the 12v distribution box, and the smart battery charger in your diagram. If you make it so that the generator is hard-wired in there's always the possibility that someone plugs the bus in while the generator is running and you'll have a really bad day if that happens.ģ) To use something like the progressive dynamics power center I showed you, the diagram would be re-jiggered a bit. But let's assume you're going to build this so that it's not possible, like the shore power plug connects to the generator and has to be unplugged from the generator to plug in to shore power. If you're really tight on roof space you can stick with 3 panels and use one of these.Ģ) Technically you would need another transfer switch to switch between generator/shore power to prevent those two from ever ever ever being used at the same time. In this way you will have a single pair of wires coming in through the roof to the solar charge controller, and you can put that through an in-line breaker/switch. no need for a large bulky combiner box and a bunch of cables going to it. Then you'll have 4, and can wire two pairs of panels in series and then put the two pairs in parallel with a simple Y adapter up on the roof. I would take the money saved from getting rid of the combiner box and instead get another solar panel. With the 3 solar panels you have, you're well within the current rating and open circuit voltage rating of the charge controller whether you wire them all in series or parallel. Open to all thoughts and recommendations of course.ġ) I dont think you need the combiner box. I'm also considering getting a renogy inverter/charger/converter combo to do my inverting to AC from DC battery and also my converting from AC shore power to DC to charge battery but those are a bit pricey. Would this system all work together? Would that item you recommended be a better fit.
